| Creating a Feathered Edge |

| Creating a feathered edge on a image is easy and can add
a nice effect to photographs. Open a sample image to work
with. |

- Start by picking the Bitmap Selection Tool that you
want to use. In this example pick up the Oval
Tool,

- Once the tool is selected the Property Bar changes and
has an option for setting the edge properties. Use the
drop down menu to choose Feathered. Also
set the Width of the feathered edge.

- With the Oval Tool click and drag out
an oval around the area to be kept. If the selection isn't
quite right click the small red button with the white
plus. This resets the selection and the oval tool will
have to be picked up again.

- All the pixels within the dashed line are selected and
the border has been feathered. The feather isn't visible
because both sides of the border are still together. One
side needs to be deleted. If you hit the Delete button
on the keyboard all the selected pixels will be deleted.
Tthe result will be a feathered hole in the image. Mostly
likely the outside is the area that should be deleted.
The selection needs to be reversed. Go to Select
>> Select Inverse.

- Now the Dashed border should have switched to include
all the pixels except the oval. Press Delete
on your keyboard.

- The result is an oval selection with a feathered border.
In the example the canvas is transparent (checkered).
Change the Canvas color to match the background color
of the page it will go on.

- To change canvas color, go to "Modify
>> Canvas >> Canvas
Color

- Just trim the canvas and the image is ready to be saved
and exported.
