Mission
The Web Academy will aid educators within the state in creating and maintaining a classroom or school web site. The academy consists of a series of three 2 day courses. In addition to the in person courses this web site provides resources and tutorials to supplement the courses or to be used on their own. Suggestions
1. Dreamweaver 1: Online Projects 2. Fireworks: Web Graphics 3. Dreamweaver 2: Online Projects New
Credit Options: Web Academy Series
With a focus on creating a classroom or school web site, these 6 days of training combine three 2 day segments, consisting of Dreamweaver 1, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver 2, into a comprehensive series, designed to provide a solid foundation in the entire process of creating an effective educational web site. In order to make the Academy more effective the credit options have been redrafted. Basically USOE and SUU credits are no longer available for individual courses. Participants will now take all three courses, complete their project and then receive 3 USOE credit hours or 3 SUU credit hours. Reliscensure points will continue to be available for individual courses. |
Rationale
The Web Academy helps educators learn how to frame learning around a problem, critical question, issue or theme. Participants learn how to create a web site to support one of the 18 Activity Structures for online learning outlined by Judi Harris. Their site can be designed for telecollaborative learning, to effectively convey curriculum information and concepts in an attention-getting way, or to enhance communication with students, parents and the community regarding class activities, or teachers can design a project for which their students create web pages. All of these options meet No Child Left Behind goals of improved communication, and/or research-based strategies for improving student learning such as reward and recognition, authentic problem-solving, and cooperative learning (Classroom Instruction that Works: Research-Based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement by Robert J. Marzano, Debra J. Pickering, Jane E. Pollock). |
