Pop Can Race

This experiment involves charging objects with static electricity. That means you will be moving some electrons around. You will need:

• Large, inflated balloon (ask a grown up for help with the balloon)
• Wool sweater to charge the balloon
• Empty, clean, dry aluminum cans, 1 per racer
• A 6 foot course of non-carpeted floor marked off with a finish line

Charge your balloon by rubbing it back and forth with the wool sweater. After the balloons of you and the other racers are charged, put the aluminum cans on their sides at the start line. Have a non-participating friend say “Ready, Set, Go!” Good Luck!
