International Quality Standards for Continuing Education Centers

Monday, June 22, 2009
2:45 pm - 3:35 pm

Description

Since September 2006, four universities in the United States and four European universities, all part of the International Association for Continuing Engineering Education (IACEE), have been working on a project to establish and disseminate international quality standards for centers of continuing engineering education (CEE) based on the European EFQM Quality Model. The outcome has been the development of a self-assessment tool that CEE centers can use to identify their centers’ strengths and weaknesses relative to the criteria outlined in the self-assessment tool and provide a mechanism for benchmarking centers against their peers and competitors. The next phase of the project is to expand the applicability of the self-assessment tool beyond continuing education centers in schools of engineering to all continuing education centers, including those with distance learning operations, and also develop a set of benchmarking tools to facilitate the use of the tool more broadly. In this session, we will introduce the self-assessment tool and invite attendees to participate in the early benchmarking activities of the project and provide feedback on the applicability of the tool to all academic disciplines as it continues to evolve.
