From the Horse to the Hemi: Upgrading Your Assessment Engine for Diverse Learning Environments

Tuesday, June 23, 2009
1:10 pm - 2:00 pm

Description

The proliferation of online education offerings is growing exponentially, and great emphasis has been placed on teaching methodologies in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. There is also an increased emphasis on assessment as a mechanism for evaluating competency, however that is defined. This shift toward online education has a significant impact on assessment, requiring that traditional methods be reevaluated.

In this session we will discuss how the creation of valid, reliable assessments is impacted by distributed student populations and the skills, expectations, and obstacles that online learning entails.

This session will address the following topics:

  • Defining integrated, robust outcomes and competencies
  • Context-dependent versus context-independent assessments
  • New technologies in delivery and reporting
