NUTN 2008

Web 2.0 and the Agile Organization

Monday, June 22, 2009
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Description

Do you have a Google map embedded in your campus website? Do you recruit through Flick'r, Facebook or MySpace. How is your Second Life Island shaping up? More interestingly, did you sit on any of these committees? Are there any committees on your campus for these? In this presentation we will engage the group in dialogue about the adoption and use of Web 2.0 and how it relates to concepts such as enterprise 2.0, and education 3.0. We will discuss some of the applications of Web 2.0 technologies and the challenges they present to our organizations. In response, we will introduce the notion of agility and present some of the changes organizations will need to embrace while moving from traditional planning and management approaches designed around control and imposed predictability, to approaches that accept and leverage change through iterations of improvement and discovery. Through this process, we will connect our activities as leaders and managers in higher education with the development of Web 2.0, and how it relates to the use of the concepts of agility and openness in our practice.
