Excelsior College

Larry CarverJohn Ebersole is president of Excelsior College, one of America’s oldest institutions of distance education and assessment. Prior to Excelsior, he served as Associate Provost and dean of Extended Education at Boston University (BU). During his years at BU, Ebersole designed and developed that institution’s online education program. Other positions have included senior administrative roles in continuing and distance education at Colorado State University and the University of California, Berkeley. As dean of the School of Management at John F. Kennedy University, in the late 1980s, he pioneered in the delivery of the first online degree program, from an accredited U.S. institution. He is a former president of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA). Ebersole holds graduate degrees in both business and public administration, as well as an EdS from The George Washington University. He held the Michael Sandler Fellowship in Business and Government at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in the fall of 2005, conducting research on innovation in higher education.
